We lost our brush attachment that came with our Miele somewhere around the house, and I decided I couldn’t wait any longer and needed to get a replacement. I was a bit disheartened to read from several reviews here that Miele had discontinued the natural bristle brush, and people were complaining the new brush had bristles that are too stiff to gently clean surfaces. Needless to say, the replacement bristles appear to be synthetic, but I think they are soft enough to not scratch, which works for me. One thing I do like about this “improved” brush is there is a inset ring to prevent the “sucking in” of the bristles which I found was a problem and reduced the effectiveness of the original attachment. This item arrived in a Miele box and fits right in the spot where the other brush once resided.

The original brush that came with the Miele vacuum has very hard, rough bristles; and after three years of regular weekly use, the bristles have gotten pretty wonky. So, we snagged this replacement: I can’t say if the bristles are “natural” but they certainly are softer, and will work better — and safer — on more delicate fabrics (like the living room couch and chairs) and rugs. Only time will tell if the brush will hold up to regular weekly use, but for right now we’re satisfied.

This brush is much less substantial than the brush that originally came with our White Pearl Miele vacuum, but I’m not sure that’s a bad thing. It feels more nimble, and sucks up fine dust well, without scratching. I’m not convinced there’s much horse hair in the bristle ring, and again, that may not matter. Whatever bristle is used seems soft enough, and effective at dislodging dust. Overall, it’s an improvement over the rather beaten original it replaces.
